New Tacoma

The "Miller Amendment"

On August 26, 1997 the Tacoma City Council passed what was to become known as the Miller Amendment. This resolution placed hurdles on developing low income housing in portions of downtown Tacoma.

In 2006 the Council is once again discussing this resolution. As of August 10th this discussion is still in committee and has not reached the full council.
